Kaganov Research Initiative in Pulmonary Medicine and Engineering Instructions
MEDx is pleased to announce a call for proposals that focus on, or have relevance to, lung function or lung diseases, especially pulmonary fibrosis.
The proposed research should address the following priorities:
- Improve our understanding of disease mechanisms
- Enhance diagnosis
- Create more effective treatments
- Ultimately find pathways to cure idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and other lung diseases
The proposals may address basic biomedical questions or may be translational in nature, but each application must represent a collaboration between a faculty member in the Pratt School of Engineering and a faculty member in the School of Medicine. Because of the focus, the applicants are encouraged to have physicians or scientists with lung disease expertise as part of the collaborative team.
We anticipate awarding at least three one-year grants that range of up to $150,000 in direct costs. The intent of the grants is to position investigators to obtain external funding.
Applicants must be regular rank faculty.
We will evaluate applications based on scientific merit and/or the potential to impact patient care or treatment. We will also consider the strength of the team approach and the potential for external grants. Other desirable outcomes are commercial partnerships, a licensing event, or company formation and angel investment.
Proposals are due on October 30, 2019, with funding decisions made in November.
